The University of Limerick officially opened its doors at the country's second Olympic sized swimming pool today. The pool, which is 50 metres long with a unique floating floor to allow a variation of depths up to 2 metres, is the centrepiece of the impressive £20million indoor sports arena at the University.
The pool can also be divided into two sections, while there is seating for 350 spectators. Former world 3,000m indoor silver medallist Paul Donovan is General Manager of the pool, and he believes the pool will allow our elite swimmers to train in the type of conditions they will meet at top class international competition.
Elsewhere in the complex, a multi-purpose indoor sports arena will offer a wide variety of sport support and training back up to our budding international athletes.
