Andrew Bree has smashed his own Irish record in the 400 metres individual medley by over five seconds at the European Short Course swimming championships in Antwerp. Tenth-placed Bree narrowly missed out on a berth in the final, finishing with a time of 4 minutes, 16.26 seconds.
Bree has enjoyed a great start to the Belgium tournament. In yesterday's 200 metres Individual Medley, he beat Gary O'Toole's eleven-year-old Irish record to become the first Irish swimmer to break the two-minute barrier in the event.
Elsewhere this morning, Donal O'Neill, Lee Kelleher and Julie Douglas all failed to progress from the heats of their events.
