Triple Olympic champion Inge de Bruijn's quest for four gold medals at the swimming world championships in Japan ended today when the Dutch star pulled out of the women's 100m butterfly due to 'scheduling problems'.
De Bruijn has already added the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly titles to her Olympic haul this week, but will now concentrate on winning her third gold medal in the 50m freestyle on Saturday.
De Bruijn, who holds the world record for the 50m and 100m in freestyle and butterfly, would have had to swim the 50m freestyle semi-finals before contesting the 100m butterfly final on Saturday evening. Slovakia's Martina Moravcova, who took silver behind de Bruijn in the 100m butterfly in Sydney, also withdrew from this morning's heats to concentrate on the evening's 200m freestyle final.
