James Hickman collected Britain's third gold medal in three days after winning the 200m butterfly in the European short-course swimming championships in Lisbon today.
The world record holder, who swims for the City of Leeds, finished almost a second ahead of German runner-up Thomas Rupprath to make up for the disappointment of a silver medal in the 100m butterfly on Friday. The 23-year-old, who had trailed Rupprath for 150m before surging ahead, said, "I finally got what I was looking for this weekend." Hickman finished in 1min 53.52sec, Rupprath in 1min 54.43sec and Denys Sylantyev of Ukraine in bronze medal position in 1min 54.86sec.
