Convicted sex abuser, swim coach Derry O'Rourke, is to face 59 new charges of indecent assault. O'Rourke was appointed National Swimming coach by the Irish Amateur Swimming Association in November 1991. He is presently serving a 12-year sentence for assaulting swimmers.
The new charges against O'Rourke relate to offences against six women between 1970 and 1992. O'Rourke was remanded to reappear before Kilmainham District Court on November 11th. These charges bring to 149 the total number that have been brought against the former coach by women who trained under him at a Dublin Swimming Club.
