Break coming at 'wrong time' for burgeoning Bohemians - Paul Corry

The League of Ireland's mid-season break might just be coming at an inopportune time for Bohemians, says ex-UCD and Shamrock Rovers midfielder Paul Corry.

Alan Reynolds' side form has improved markedly after a nine-game run without a win. The only blip - and that was more the result rather than the performance - came last Monday as they suffered a late, late defeat to Shamrock Rovers in the derby at Dalymount Park.

Otherwise, since getting back to winning ways against Dundalk on 8 May, Bohs have beaten Drogheda United, Galway United and Sligo Rovers.

Speaking on the RTÉ Soccer Podcast, Corry discussed how the north Dublin club had turned their form around - although the momentum will be halted by the schedule with a two-week break before facing Derry City on 12 June and amid a glut of domestic fixtures, European qualifiers will also loom large to test the depth of their squad.

"I think the break is actually coming at the wrong time for Bohs," he said.

"They've got off the back of that really poor run without winning - nine games - and I was at the game in Eamonn Deacy Park when they played Galway and they were absolutely brilliant.

"I was actually quite critical of the midfielders last time I was on (the podcast) and said they weren't contributing enough in the final third.

"That's really changed in the last couple of weeks. (Ross) Tierney has been on the scoresheet, (Dawson) Devoy, (Dayle) Rooney, (Harry) Vaughan.

"There is so much more purpose about their forward play. I thought they were over-playing a couple of weeks ago where they were keeping the ball for the sake of keeping the ball and having nothing really at the end of it.

"Some of their inter-play against Sligo the other day - very evident against (Shamrock) Rovers and Galway - was excellent.

"There is so much more purpose and tempo about what it is they're doing. I just hope the break doesn't stall that momentum."

While captain Dawson Devoy has been in the spotlight and has earned a maiden Ireland senior call-up, Harry Vaughan has also started to demonstrate his potential and he was recalled by the Ireland Under-21s on Monday.

The loanee from Hull City weighed in with two assists in the 3-1 win over Sligo on Friday.

"I remember watching him in the opening game at Lansdowne Road and he's so small," Corry said.

"He is one of those players where if you get it into his feet and you play around him, you're going to get the most out of him.

"And it probably took Bohs a couple of weeks before he started playing consistently. He's played consistently in the last number of games and he's a brilliant technician.

"He's so comfortable with the ball at his feet, he's got great intelligence, just linking with players, with Dawson Devoy and Tierney and that's probably brought them on a bit, and he's definitely somebody who has added to that side.

"Vaughan is definitely somebody who has stood up in the last couple of weeks."
