Heimir Hallgrimsson calls up League of Ireland quartet

Matt Healy gets his first international call-up

Republic of Ireland head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson has called four League of Ireland into his squad ahead of the international friendly against Canada in Montreal.

Shamrock Rovers duo Matt Healy and Josh O'Dwyer, and St Patrick’s Athletic’s Kian Leavy have been called up along with with Dawson Devoy of Bohemians.

Rovers midfielder Healy receives his first senior international call-up following an impressive run of form for the League of Ireland champions this season. Joining him is 16-year-old O'Dwyer, who has been invited into the senior environment as a training player.

Recognised as a high-potential talent within the pathway, O'Dwyer will gain valuable experience with the senior squad in Montreal before linking up with the Ireland Under-17s for their international window next week.

Leavy also comes into the squad for his first senior international call-up after impressing for St. Pat’s this season while also featuring for Ireland’s U21s.

Hallgrímsson's squad has been further bolstered by the arrival of goalkeeper Mark Travers (Everton), and midfielders Conor Coventry (Charlton Athletic) and Devoy, all of whom have linked up with the traveling party for the Canadian leg of the window.

As part of the pre-arranged squad management plan for this double-header, four players have departed the camp following Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Qatar at the Aviva Stadium. Caoimhín Kelleher, Dara O’Shea, Jayson Molumby and Jack Moylan have all returned to their respective clubs.

Ireland face Canada at Saputo Stadium on Friday, 5 June, in the final match of the current international window.
