Dundee United defender Will Ferry has been called into Heimir Hallgrimsson's Republic of Ireland squad ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Grenada (live on RTÉ Player from 5pm).
The 25-year-old has been given permission by his club to fly out to Murcia, Spain, and is set to take part in today’s training session.
Ferry - who has been capped up to Under-21 level with Ireland - has enjoyed a good campaign in Scotland.
After Dundee United's 3-0 derby win gainst Dundee three weeks ago, in which Ferry scored twice and assisted the other goal, Jim Goodwin heaped praise on the full-back.
"I think he started the season a little bit slowly and then grew into it," said Goodwin. "As the season went on, he got better and better. Of course, he's going to be on the radar of a number of other clubs out there. Thankfully, we’ve still got him under contract. I think we’re in a very good position as a club."
Ferry's inclusion provides further defensive options for Ireland who played a behind-closed-doors match against Real Murcia 'B’ at the La Finca Resort Training Centre on Tuesday.
Millenic Alli put the Boys in Green ahead in the 18th minute – having had a goal ruled out for offside earlier in the half – with Adam Idah adding a second late on after coming on from the bench.
The Ireland squad will continue their training programme at their Murcia base today and tomorrow before facing Grenada at the Estadio Nueva Condomina on Saturday.
