Newcastle United midfielder Rory Finneran has been called into Heimir Hallgrimsson's Republic of Ireland senior squad for the first time ahead of the international friendly against Grenada in Spain.
The 18-year-old has traveled to Murcia to link up with the rest of the players following the withdrawal of Cardiff City defender Joel Bagan and Ipswich Town winger Kasey McAteer, who have both been ruled out through injury.
Finneran, who joined Newcastle in 2024 from Blackburn Rovers, will now be in contention to make his senior debut against Grenada at the Estadio Nueva Condomina on Saturday week.
He captained the Ireland Under-17s that made it to the last 16 of the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar last year. In January 2024 Finneran became Blackburn's youngest-ever player, aged 15 years, 10 months and eight days when he cme off the bench in a 5-2 FA Cup win over Cambridge United
The squad continues its preparations in Murcia today as they build toward the first of three international fixtures over the course of three weeks. They face Qatar and Canada in late May/early June.
