Bohemians' nine-match winless run came to an end at Oriel Park as the Gypsies came from behind to beat 10 man Dundalk.
Alan Reynolds’ men hadn’t won since beating Galway Utd at home on 13 March with their hopes of ending that 56 day wait for three points looking bleak when they trailed at the break to a brilliant strike from Aodh Dervin.
However, after being introduced at half-time Douglas James-Taylor had a hand to play in the leveller from Ross Tierney before scoring from the spot after a needless concession by former Bohs man Rob Cornwall that saw him dismissed.
The Phibsborough outfit then made sure of the victory in stoppage time as Zane Myers completed the victory as they moved three points clear of their opponents in third.
It was one-way traffic in the opening half with Gbemi Arubi testing Kacper Chorazka after just four minutes before the Polish keeper was called into action again three minutes when he was forced to push away Dervin’s attempt on the half volley at full stretch to his right.
The visitors had another let-off on 23 minutes when the home side broke at pace down the right with Eoin Kenny playing in Tyreke Wilson, who opted to cross initially rather than shoot only the ball to rebound back to him but his follow up attempt was well over.
Bohs were blunt in attack with a tame header from Colm Whelan and a scuffed shot wide from Dawson Devoy all they had to show for their first half efforts.
Perhaps their biggest plus up until that point was that they hadn’t conceded but that statement was cancelled out on 34 minutes when Dundalk deservedly hit the front.
Arubi was able to turn away from Cian Byrne all too easily before playing Dervin in on the right behind Harry Vaughan, with the Longford native blasting his first goal of the season past Chorazka to the left hand corner of the net.
The Gypsies made a triple change at the break and it paid dividends within five minutes of the restart as Whelan’s effort was blocked before falling to James-Taylor, who showed great composure to slip Tierney in for what was a cool finish past Enda Minogue from the edge of the six yard box.
Tierney would have another half chance from a header on 65 minutes but couldn’t get the power on his header but he was at the centre of things three minutes later when he was pushed in the box by Cornwall, who was shown a straight red by referee Aaron O’Dowd, with James-Taylor sending Minogue the wrong way from the spot to put the visitors 2-1 up.
Dayle Rooney had a big chance to put the result beyond doubt on 77 minutes but could only find the side-netting after being played in on the left.
Bohs then had Chorazka to thank for denying the Louth men an equaliser 10 minutes later when he did brilliantly to push away Bobby Burns’ dipping volley.
As they soaked up pressure from the hosts, the visitors then hit them on the break with Dawson Devoy slipping Myers in for the clincher on 93 minutes.
