Jamie McGrath is eager to replicate the best day of his Hibernian career to date when William Hill Premiership leaders Hearts return to Easter Road on Sunday.

While the Jambos have edged the two Edinburgh derbies 1-0 at Tynecastle this term, the Hibees enjoyed the bragging rights in the last meeting in Leith in late December.

It was a memorable occasion for McGrath, with the Republic of Ireland international notching an early opener before setting up Josh Campbell for the second as David Gray's side roared into a three-goal lead on their way to a rousing 3-2 victory.

"It’s definitely my favourite memory at Hibs so far," said McGrath (above, r).

"Hopefully, we can do it again on Sunday.

"Every game is different but of course, we can try to approach it the same way, go in with the same mindset.

"Attack the game from minute one and get the fans right behind us, which really helped us last time.

"If we took more of our chances, it could have been more on the day, but we know Hearts have dangerous players going the other way, so we can’t be too gung-ho early on."

The former Dundalk, St Mirren, Wigan and Aberdeen midfielder has enjoyed the hype around the Edinburgh derby since moving to Easter Road last summer.

"I think it's the first big derby I’ve played in my career," said the 29-year-old, who has 13 Ireland caps.

"I’ve played in the Dundalk-Drogheda derby back home and obviously Wigan v Bolton and stuff like that, but this is definitely the biggest one I’ve been involved in.

"You sense it from minute one when you walk into the club. There’s a lot of noise around it.

"Even in Tesco yesterday, walking around, we had a few shouts like 'you know what you have to do on Sunday’ and stuff like that.

"It's all good – it adds to the excitement."

Hibs go into the final derby of the season with the dual incentive of boosting their hopes of catching fourth-placed Motherwell and damaging their city rivals’ bid to win the Scottish top-flight title for the first time in 66 years.

"It’s a brilliant opportunity for us to kick-start the top-six run-in," said McGrath. "It’s obviously such a big game, with a lot riding on it.

"We want to catch the team above us and we have to make our home games count so there’s no better day to do it than hopefully on Sunday.

"We’ve shown already this season, every game against Hearts has been a very tight game. We’re hoping to come out with three points but we know how tough it’s going to be."
