It's a big evening for the Girls in Green

Abbie Larkin starts for the Republic of Ireland in this evening's crunch World Cup qualifier against Poland at the Polsat Plus Arena Gdansk (Live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player from 4.30pm).

Larkin, who is enjoying a strong campaign with Crystal Palace in WSL2, was the Irish saviour last October when she came off the bench to score a dramatic 90th-minute goal against Belgium that earned the Girls in Green promotion to League A of the Nations League.

Carla Ward has now given her a major vote of confidence by bringing her into the XI, with Kyra Carusa not included in the matchday squad after she picked up a bug overnight.

In the only other change to the team that started against the Netherlands in Utrecht last month, Denise O'Sullivan comes back into the midfield in place of Lucy Quinn. O'Sullivan missed that 2-1 defeat due to a knee injury. She'll be in the engine room alongside Megan Connolly and Marissa Sheva.

Katie McCabe skippers the side, with the central defensive trio of Anna Patten, Caitlin Hyes and Chloe Mustaki tasked with locking down Barcelona star striker Ewa Pajor.
