Sligo Rovers came from behind to inflict a first defeat of the season on Bohemians with a 2-1 win at Dalymount Park on Friday.
The result stretches Bohs' winless run to six games, as Alan Reynolds’ side moved down to third place in the table.
It’s a vital win for struggling Sligo, who were pinned into their own half for most of the second period, despite the hosts finishing the game with ten men following the dismissal of Adam McDonnell.
Without the influential Dawson Devoy, Bohs struggled to break down a determined Sligo, who saw this game out convincingly in the end as boos rang around the Phibsborough venue.
Zane Myers fired Bohs ahead with eight minutes on the clock from the right-hand side, but the visitors grew in confidence as the first half wore on.
Struggling to create chances this year, there was no shortage of that in the capital as chances came through Archie Meekison and Daire Patton.
John Russell’s side were back level five minutes before the interval when captain Will Fitzgerald flicked an Alex Nolan effort into the net.
Seconds later, an outstanding save from Sam Sargeant denied Bohs another goal that would have seen them go into the break ahead.
Just minutes into the second-half, Sligo went in front with a header from on-loan St Pats defender Sean McHale.
Bohs were reduced to ten men when former Sligo player Adam McDonell was dismissed for a second yellow after a hefty challenge on Jeannot Esua.
While the hosts dominated possession in the second half, there was no way past the defensive set up of Sligo who deservedly picked up a massive three points.
