Shamrock Rovers defender Maria Reynolds gets Republic of Ireland call as trio forced to pull out

It's a first call-up for Maria Reynolds

Shamrock Rovers defender Maria Reynolds has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for the first time after three players were forced to drop out with injuries.

Ahead of the World Cup double-header against Poland, Carla Ward has been forced to shuffle her options following injuries to Bohemians teenager Aoibhe Brennan - who'd been included for the first time last week - Lily Agg and Jessie Stapleton.

Brennan sustained an ankle injury with her club, while Agg ruptured her Achilles heel in action for Durham just weeks after returning from an ACL injury.

Stapleton was forced off during Nottingham Forest's WSL 2 clash with Durham nine days ago and has not recovered.

Reynolds and then-Athlone Town striker Kelly Brady were invited to train with Ireland last October ahead of the Nations League promotion/relegation play-off against Wales, having been named on a standby list.

She is one of a clutch of SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division players Ward has been closely monitoring.

Shelbourne's Aoibheann Clancy and Jamie Finn of Sunderland have also been included.

Clancy returns to the international set-up for the first time since March 2025. She made her senior debut in a 4-0 friendly win over Morocco back in November 2022.

The squad will report for duty tomorrow to begin preparations for two vital fixtures. They face the Poles at the Gdansk Stadium on Tuesday 14 April (5pm Irish time), before the return fixture at Aviva Stadium the following Saturday (3pm). Both games are live on RTÉ2 and the RTÉ Player.
