Roy Hodgson believes Bristol City goalkeeper Radek Vitek has "all the attributes to be a Premier League goalkeeper" after seeing the Robins make it maximum points from his first two games as interim head coach as they beat Sheffield United 1-0.

Former Republic of Ireland international Mark Sykes produced a cool low finish past covering defenders after 23 minutes after Blades goalkeeper Adam Davies had advanced from his area to win a 50-50 challenge with Emil Riis in the 1-0 win.

However, the visitors were transformed after a lethargic opening 45 minutes and Manchester United loanee Vitek denied them at least a point with a string of fine saves to keep out efforts from Andre Brooks twice, Gus Hamer, Patrick Bamford and Mark McGuinness.

Coventry crept closer to promotion to the Premier League despite an off-colour display in a goalless draw at Hull.

Setbacks for promotion rivals Millwall and Middlesbrough meant a win for Coventry would have moved them to within two points of guaranteeing a return to the top flight for the first time in 25 years.

While the Sky Blues were second best for large spells at the MKM Stadium and fortunate to avoid defeat, they retained their 12-point lead atop the table with five matches now remaining.

Ipswich came from behind and boosted their hopes of an immediate return to the Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Birmingham at Portman Road.

The visitors stuck first through Carlos Vicente, before the Tractor Boys kept alive their dreams of an immediate return to the Premier League with goals just before the break from Ben Johnson and Ireland's Kasey McAteer.

Tommy Conway scored a second-half penalty equaliser as promotion-chasing Middlesbrough earned a precious point from a 2-2 draw away to Swansea.

In match of three penalties, Conway's 75th-minute effort levelled things up after two first-half spot-kicks for Swansea’s Zan Vipotnik.

Boro would have moved back into the top two with a win, but the draw means they remain in third.

Alex Bangura had opened the scoring for Kim Hellberg’s side before Championship top scorer Vipotnik’s double as Swansea sit 15th.

Oscar Schwartau climbed off the bench to fire Norwich to a 2-1 win over Millwall – and do their fierce rivals Ipswich a big favour.

The Lions, who started Easter Monday in second, had taken the lead through substitute Mihailo Ivanovic shortly after half-time.

But a long-range rocket from Pelle Mattsson and Schwartau's winner condemned them to defeat to give the chasing pack – including Norwich’s East Anglian foes Ipswich – a major boost in the race for automatic promotion.

Michael O'Neill's Blackburn kept their third successive clean sheet as they were held to a goalless draw by fellow relegation battlers West Brom.

Second-half goals from Jaydon Banel and Carlton Morris earned Derby a comfortable 2-0 win over Stoke and boosted their chances of a play-off place.

After getting beat by Coventry on Friday, John Eustace's side returned to winning ways and ensured they moved to within a point off Wrexham, who sit in sixth place.

Andre Dozzell's 87th-minute equaliser saved a point for 10-man Portsmouth in their fraught 2-2 relegation dogfight with Oxford.

Keshi Anderson gave Pompey a ninth-minute lead but Connor Ogilvie’s straight red card seven minutes later gave them an uphill battle.

Brodie Spencer equalised before Tottenham loanee Will Lankshear’s diving header gave him his 10th goal of the season and seemingly the three points.

But midfielder Dozzell steered home late on to give Portsmouth a place and point advantage over Oxford – with the two sides split by the relegation line.

Thierry Small scored an unfortunate own goal to help QPR extend their unbeaten run to four games after a 1-1 draw at Preston.

QPR, who had won their previous three Championship matches, lacked a spark until Small's wayward clearance beat Daniel Iversen in the 82nd minute.

It came after Preston were managing to hold off Rangers’ dangerous attacks and maintain the lead that was given to them by Brad Potts a minute into the second half.

Jordan Ayew's late goal denied Sheffield Wednesday their first home win of the Championship season but it was not enough to drag Leicester out of the relegation zone as they drew 1-1 with the league’s bottom side.

Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles made incredible save after incredible save in a game the Foxes needed to win to move above fellow strugglers Oxford and Portsmouth.

Jerry Yates’ second-minute goal nearly proved enough to secure the hosts their first three points since September, but Ayew’s quality finish in the 84th minute meant it was only the one point for the Owls.

Charlton manager Nathan Jones revealed that Conor Coady had been taken to hospital after being knocked out during the 1-1 draw at Watford.

The former England international, 33, needed nine minutes of treatment after being caught flush in the head by Tom Ince's shot as the Championship match moved into second-half stoppage time.

Jones said: "He lost consciousness and we are just assessing it now. He has gone off to hospital, so hopefully he will be okay."

Matty Godden put Charlton ahead with his first touch after coming on as a substitute, stylishly converting Kayne Ramsay's flick on from Harry Clarke’s long throw in the 62nd minute.

It was the 34-year-old’s first goal of an injury-hit campaign.

Charlton goalkeeper Will Mannion made a string of saves, with the hosts amassing 31 attempts in total, before Nestory Irankunda produced an emphatic low finish to finally break his resistance.
