Wexford's defence of their All-Island Cup began with a 2-0 loss to Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds on Saturday.
Wexford lifted the title last August when they beat Bohemians on penalties, but they came unstuck in their opening Group A match against an impressive Bit O'Red.
Cara Jordan broke the deadlock in the tenth minute and struck again with 19 minutes to go, Sligo dilligently protcting that buffer to begin the competition on the right foot.
On Sunday, Linfield host Shamrock Rovers in the group's other collision.
In Group B, Galway United powered to a 4-0 win against Peamount United.
Ceola Bergin tucked away a 13th-minute penalty, Aoibheann Donnelly made it 2-0 on 37 minutes nd Bergin struck again right on half-time to effectively end the contest. Aoibheann Costello's 69th-minute effort was the cherry on top for Galway.
Earlier, DLR Waves edged a tight game against Lisburn Rangers. Keelin Dodd's 31st-minute goal settled it.
In Group C, reigning SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division champions Athlone Town beat Cork City 2-0 in the midlands. Melissa O'Kane put them head with 14 minutes gone, finishing off a slick move, and Madi Gibson sealed it with a header four minutes into the second period.
Also in Group C, Treaty United came out the right side of a five-goal battle with Cliftonville at the Paddocks in Ballingarry.
Goalless at the break, things came alive on the turnaround, with Madison McGuane putting Treaty in front in the 54th minute. McGuane - a player being closely monitored by Republic of Ireland boss Carla Ward - made it 2-0 with six minutes to go with Cliftonville's Carla Devine halving the deficit in the 88th minute.
Ciara Breslin settled Treaty nerves by scoring a third almost immediately, though Lucy Kelly did pinch another one for the visitors in stoppage time to make it an anxious ending.
Last year's beaten finalists Bohs lost 3-1 to Glentoran in their Group D encounter at Dalymount Park.
Aimee Kerr, Demi Vance and Rachel Rogan put Glentoran in full control, with Alanna McEvoy's late riposte a mere consolation.
Shelbourne had no issues against Waterford, outgunning the Blues to win 4-2 at the RSC.
Waterford made a good start, Isabel Walsh giving them a half-time lead. However Maeve Wollmer banged in two goals inside the first nine minutes of the second half to turn the game on its head. A fine Leah Doyle free-kick extended Shels' lead, before Rachel Graham scored direct from a corner to make it 4-1.
Aisling Mahony got one back for Waterford but it was too little too late.
