Lorenzo Piaia was the hero as Finn Harps repelled the league leaders

First Division leaders Cork City were held to a scoreless draw by a dogged Finn Harps on Good Friday.

The Rebels had the bulk of the chances, but were rather wasteful and also found home goalkeeper Lorenzo Piaia on form.

This was the first time this season that Cork failed to score in a game, but the Leesiders still extended their lead at the top of the pile due to Bray Wanderers losing 2-1 in Wexford.

The Cork attack included former Harps players Ruairí Keating and Hans Mpongo.

Dutch forward Mpongo was snapped up by Cork at the end of last season after scoring eight times in 15 games for Harps following his arrival to Ballybofey last summer.

Keating had three different spells at Harps, all under the tenure of the late Ollie Horgan, and scored 12 goals in 36 appearances.

The striker was thwarted by Piaia after he was fed by Greg Bolger on the half-hour while the same player rifled over the top soon after.

Earlier, Piaia saved from Darragh Crowley's 25-yarder.Cork boss Barry Robson kept his XI unchanged after a 4-1 win over Athlone while Harps welcomed U19 internationals Josh Cullen and Gavin McAteer back into their squad.

Cullen returned in place of Adam McDaid following a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Longford Town last weekend.

Harps captain Tony McNamee tried his luck with a somewhat ambitious effort from distance on 33 minutes. With the Cork goalkeeper, Conor Brann, backpedaling, McNamee arrowed goalwards, but his attempt was off target.

A superb save from Piaia pushed away Josh Fitzpatrick’s stinging shot at the expense of a corner five minutes before the break.

The Brazilian denied Cillian Murphy and Conor Drinan as Cork pushed for a breakthrough.

Harps themselves almost stole in front seven minutes into the second half, but Conor Tourish flashed a header off target after connecting with a Joel Bradley-Walsh free kick.

Fitzpatrick fired wide and Piaia saved from Sean Maguire as Harps continued to frustrate their visitors.

In a feisty conclusion, Harps coach Eamon Curry saw red with the home side unhappy when Rory Feely escaped sanction for an incident with Idir Zerrouk in front of the home bench.

In added time, AJ Bridge looked like he might snatch a winner for Cork but Piaia, just, held his nerve.

Finn Harps: Lorenzo Piaia; Josh Cullen, Conor Tourish, Joel Bradley-Walsh, Alex Fanle; Daniel De Lacerda, Oran Brogan; Idir Zerrouk (Max Johnston 90+4), Tony McNamee, Nathan Lumingo (Gavin McAteer 66); Temiloluwa Ajibola (Odhran McHugh 76).

Cork City: Conor Brann; Rory Feely, Fiacre Kelleher, Charlie Lyons (AJ Bridge 74); Josh Fitzpatrick, Darragh Crowley, Greg Bolger (Cillian Murphy 55), Conor Drinan; Seani Maguire, Ruairí Keating, Hans Mpongo.

Referee: Declan Toland.

Wexford FC came from a goal down to beat second placed Bray Wanderers in Ferrycarrig Park.

Jamie Duggan had given the visitors the lead after 22 minutes, which they retained until the interval. Liam Doyle levelled things up for Wexford shortly after the restart, before Kaylem Harnett found the winner less than 10 minutes from the time.

The Irish Under-19 international dummied on the edge of the box before coolly side-footing the winning goal into the bottom right corner.

Two goals from Dylan McGlade either side of half-time put Cobh in the driving seat in the Munster derby in Tralee.

Cian Bargary pulled one back for Kerry just after the hour mark but they couldn't find the leveller

Athlone Town's early season burst of form looks to be fizzling out as they slipped to a third successive defeat, first-half goals from Niall Holohan and Ciaran Behan giving UCD a 2-0 victory in the midlands.

The meeting of Treaty United and Longford Town, tenth and eighth respectively, ended in a goalless draw in Markets Field.
