Heimir Hallgrimsson has made three changes to his Republic of Ireland side for tonight's Aviva Stadium friendly against North Macedonia.

The Boys in Green manager had signalled that he would not make wholesale changes to the team which agonisingly lost on penalties to Czechia in their World Cup play-off semi-final in Prague last week, and stuck to his word with minimial alterations.

Ryan Manning, whose foul for a penalty allowed the Czechs to halve the first-half deficit at the Fortuna Arena, is replaced in the XI by Liam Scales, who has returned from suspension.

Meanwhile, John Egan also comes into the back five in place of Jake O'Brien.

In midfield, Jason Knight replaces fellow midfielder Jack Taylor, who had already returned home after his wife had fallen ill.

Sammie Szmodics and Robbie Brady had already been ruled out through injury.

North Macedonia have made four changes to their team that lost 4-0 to Denmark in their own play-off semi-final last Thursday.

Aleksandar Trajkovski, who is just two games away from winning a 100th cap, has not travelled with the team after being an unused sub against Denmark.

Defenders Andrej Stojchevski and Visar Musliu as well as Jani Atanasov and Lirim Qamili drop out of the team with Imran Fetai, Darko Velkovski, Tihomir Kostadinov and Isnik Alimi replacing them.

The 33-year-old was part of his country's maiden major tournament bow at Euro 2020 and has scored 24 international goals.

Rangers’ Bojan Miovski is no longer with the squad either, having returned to Glasgow, while midfielder Jani Atanasov has been ruled out through an injury sustained in the Denmark match.
