Ciarán Kilduff laments that one point for Dundalk wasn't three against Bohemians

A feeling of some disappointment for Dundalk manager Ciarán Kilduff in that one point could have been three from their visit to Bohemians on Friday evening.

In the end it finished 1-1 at Dalymount Park, with Gbemi Arubi levelling for the Lilywhites, this after Patrick Hickey had given the hosts a half-time lead.

Kilduff had a depleted squad to work with, injuries and suspensions playing their part, but he didn't shy away from his assertion that victory would not have been underserved at the Phibsboro venue.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport's Soccer Correspondent Tony O'Donoghue, he said: "There is a small bit of frustration as I felt the game was there to be won. We were behind, then we levelled and Gbemi has a great chance to put us 2-1 up at point-blank and the keeper makes a good save. I felt two points got away there tonight.

"We had 11 senior players missing tonight and we could not fill the bench. We had Sean Spaight who turned 17 in January coming in and playing 35 minutes. That's where we were tonight. To still come away maybe a little disappointed with just a point probably tells you we are on a good path.

"We never made an excuse [of the injuries] of it and we went after the game. We wanted to win and when you have the firepower that we have you always have a chance."

"We have scored a lot of goals this year and I think coming into the game we were the joint-highest scorers which is not typical of a newly promoted team."

Tab 6

Eight games in and Dundalk are occupy fourth place in the table, with just one defeat so far.

That said, the Lilywhites boss is not setting any targets going forward, sees no point in doing so.

"We haven't set a goal; we tackle every game," he said.

"If you set a goal well that's a limit to some degree, for if you fall short then that's a crisis. We genuinely have attacked every game with a desire to win it."

Kilduff's counterpart at Bohemians, Alan Reynolds, was impressed with the Dundalk approach.

"They were very good tonight and came with a gameplan," he added.

"They are really aggressive and go after teams. We felt we were a little bit flat at times but it's important when you don't play well you don't get beaten. That was the case tonight."

Reynolds also singled out a couple of his own players for praise, saying that goalscorer Patrick Hickey has "an energy with him, a feeling that when we get a corner kick something could happen" and that Lativan Markuss Strods, who made his first start for the club, "is an exciting talent" and "worthy of his start tonight".
