Derry City's terrible run of form continued as they threw away a 2-0 lead against a below-par Drogheda United side.

Getting in front thanks to goals from Michael Duffy and Adam O'Reilly, the home side were hit by two sucker punches in quick succession as Mark Doyle and Warren Davis netted to earn a share of the spoils.

The frustrated home support were again fuming at the final whistle and booed at the end of the game to show their frustration at the current situation, which has seen the Candystripes claim eight points from six home games.

The hosts took the lead in rather old-school fashion as Jamie Stott's long ball over the top released Duffy, who cut in from the left to skip away from Leo Burney before drilling the ball low into Luke Dennsion's bottom right hand corner.

Duffy went close again on 21 minutes when a poor clearance by Dennison only found James Olayinka and his long range strike hit the side netting.

Drogheda missed a good chance to equalise on 34 minutes when Doyle failed to test City goalkeeper Eddie Beach and headed over from close range.

Bradon Kavanagh's super right-wing corner moments later found Burney, but the big centre-back, who rose over James Clarke, failed to keep his close range header down.

The home side netted a second in fortunate circumstances on 47 minutes as McClean's corner picked out Darragh Markey on the edge of the box, his effort, which was goal-bound, took a deflection off team-mate O'Reilly and wrong-footed Dennison.

Kevin Doherty made a triple change just before the hour mark as he tried to get his side back into the contest with Shane Farrell, Jason Bucknor and Warren Davis replacing Kavanagh, Burney and Thomas Oluwa.

The changes worked as they pulled a goal in superb fashion on 61 minutes as Doyle blasted home from 25 yards after McClean and Fleming ran into each other when attempting to clear the ball.

Incredibly United drew level two minutes later as substitute Davis skipped inside past Stott, before his curling effort flew past Beach into the top left-hand corner.

Derry thought they had regained the lead soon after when Barry Cotter's centre found Brandon Fleming at the back post, but his close range header was ruled out by referee Alan Patchell, as the official felt the City defender had pushed Jason Bucknor in the back when challenging for the ball.

The Brandywell men made a triple change themselves on 71 minutes with Ben Doherty, Dipo Akinyemi and Josh Thomas replacing McClean, Markey and Clarke.

Derry went close to grabbing a late winner as defender Alex Bannon went close, but his close range shot on the turn was booted off the line by Farrell.
