Lucy Quinn will step into the void left by the injured Denise O'Sullivan for the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands at Stadion Galgenwaard in Utrecht tonight.

It's the only change to the XI that started against France on Tuesday in Tallaght, where Melvine Malard's brace broke Irish resilience and hearts.

Courtney Brosnan - who could be in for a busy night - is between the sticks. Anna Patten, Caitlin Hayes and Chloe Mustaki are the central defensive three, with Aoife Mannion and captain Katie McCabe the two wing-backs.

Quinn goes into the engine room with Megan Connolly and Marissa Sheva, who will look to support forward pairing Emily Murphy and Kyra Carusa.

The absence of O'Sullivan is a major blow. The Liverpool midfielder suffered a knee injury midway through the first half four days ago but finished the game, almost snatching an equaliser in stoppage time.

It became apparent in the aftermath that O'Sullivan had done some damage, Ward revealing yesterday: "There's a problem with her MCL (medial collateral ligament). That's all I’ll say for now. She’s seeing a consultant in Liverpool. We’ll know more then."

The Dutch were defensively shaky in their 2-2 draw away to Poland. Boss Arjan Veurink admitted the squad had a clear-the-air meeting afterwards amid frustration over their performance.

"We had a special meeting in which many players took the floor," he said. "There was a lot of awareness of the things that need to be improved and we did get to the core."

The Girls in Green can therefore expect a fast start from the hosts, who've made three changes to their 11. Aston Villa defender Lynn Wilms, Brighton's Marisa Olislagers and PSG attacker Romee Leuchter all come in as Kerstin Casparij, Caitlin Dijkstra and Esmee Brugts drop to the bench.

Netherlands: Lize Kop; Lynn Wilms, Dominique Janssen (capt), Veerle Buurman, Marisa Olislagers; Damaris Egurrola, Vivianne Miedema, Wieke Kaptein; Jill Roord, Lineth Beerensteyn; Romee Leuchter

Reublic of Ireland: Courtney Brosnan; Aoife Mannion, Anna Patten, Caitlin Hayes, Chloe Mustaki, Katie McCabe (capt); Megan Connolly, Lucy Quinn, Marissa Sheva; Emily Murphy; Kyra Carusa

Referee: Frida Klarlund (Denmark)
