Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis has been sacked as Flamengo boss despite winning his last game in charge 8-0.

The Brazilian, who played 26 times for the Blues and won the Premier League title in 2014-15, lost his job despite the thrashing of Madureira, which sent them through to the Campeonato Carioca final.

Luis guided Flamengo to the domestic title and Copa Libertadores glory last season, but it has been a disappointing start to this campaign, despite the signing of West Ham star Lucas Paqueta.

A club statement read: "The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that, as of this Tuesday (3), Filipe Luis will not continue in the technical command of the professional team. With him, Ivan Palanco (assistant coach) and Diogo Linhares (physical trainer) also leave the club.

"Flamengo thanks former athlete and coach Filipe Luis for everything that was achieved and shared on this journey. The club wishes him success and good luck in the continuity of his professional career."
