Shamrock Rovers have added more firepower to their squad by bringing ex-Waterford FC winger Maleace Asamoah to Tallaght Stadium.

Asamoah joins on loan from English League 1 side Wigan Athletic until December.

He scored six goals in 17 games in the 2024 campaign for the Blues during another loan spell.

The form at Waterford led to Wigan signing the 23-year-old from then parent side Fleetwood Town.

He made 47 appearances and scored three goals for Wigan.

Hoops boss Stephen Bradley is delighted with his capture: "The signing has taken some time, there was a lot of back-and-forth with it. Maleace has been a target of ours for some time.

"Some weeks back, it looked like it was on, then it was off, but we're delighted we got it done yesterday. We were working right up to the deadline to make sure the loan went through, so I am delighted that we got it done.

"We started watching Maleace during that time with Waterford. He was very good in that period. We tried to get him a number of times since then, but it just didn't quite happen. So Maleace is one we’ve monitored quite closely since this time in Waterford."

Asamoah will have to wait to make his debut due to being sent off for Wigan against Stockport last weekend.

Galway United have pulled off something of a coup by landing former Drogheda United striker Frantz Pierrot before the transfer deadline.

The League of Ireland transfer window closed last night, with United eager to bring in reinforcements in attack.

Pierrot bagged 10 league goals for Drogheda in 2024 as well as helping them go on to become FAI Cup winners.

The former Haiti international began his LOI career with Athlone Town where he scored 20 goals in the 2023 First Division campaign.

The striker has been played for FK Velez Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Bnei Yehuda (Israel) since exiting Drogheda.

The move is subject to work permit approval.

Sligo Rovers were also successful late in the window with Republic of Ireland Under-21 midfielder James McManus joining on loan from Bohemians for the rest of the campaign.

The Dubliner spent the second half of last season in Sligo before returning to Dalymount Park.

His form at The Showgrounds was enough to merit a call-up to the Ireland U21 squad.

The Gypsies have agreed to loan him out again due to the vast number of central midfielders in their squad, but a recall option is inserted into the move, meaning Bohs can bring him back during the season if desired.

Waterford have also announced the signing of right-back Jordan Houston.

The 26-year-old full-back makes the move to the RSC this week having most recently played for FC Haka in Finland, where he spent the last 12 months for the Finnish Premier League side.

He is a product of the Rangers academy, having spent the majority of his underage career at the Glasgow club.

Blues head coach Jon Daly said: "We're really pleased to bring Jordan Houston to the football club. As a right-back, he gives us the balance we’re looking for in both aspects of the game.

"He’s aggressive and disciplined defensively and has really good energy going forward, with excellent quality to deliver crosses into the box.

"His ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch is important for how we want our full backs to play, and we’re confident he’ll adapt to our league once he’s fully up to speed."

A host of other moves took place yesterday on deadline day.
