Celtic's William Hill Premiership match at Aberdeen on Wednesday night has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

A pitch inspection at Pittodrie had been called for 4pm, after the club said "an area of the surface at the Merkland end is causing concern" following prolonged rain over the last few weeks which had made the pitch heavy.

Following the inspection by one of the match officials, Aberdeen said the game had been called off "in the interests of player safety".

The Hoops were handed a boost last night after St Mirren defeated leaders Hearts.

Dundee's game against Motherwell has also been postponed.

Dundee said the "borderline decision" to postpone their fixture at Dens Park was made by the match referee "due to unprecedented rainfall".
