More than 5,000 Irish fans will miss out

More than 6,000 Republic of Ireland supporters have applied for tickets for the World Cup play-off semi-final with Czech Republic in Prague.

The game is taking place on Tuesday, 26 March at the Fortuna Arena, which is the home of Slavia Prague and has a capacity of 19,370.

A minimum of 5% of tickets must go to away fans under UEFA rules, with the final number available for Irish supporters coming in at 1,024.

As a result, over 5,000 fans will miss out.

Tickets are being allocated based on the supporter's attendance for the last 10 undersubscribed away games.

That means only fans with a record of travelling very regularly to support the Irish team will be considered.

Fans will be informed by 13 February if they are successful in their application.

There is huge interest in the match with additional flights from Irish airlines to facilitate supporters travelling also snapped up.

The winner of the tie will face Denmark or North Macedonia in a final at their home venue.

The Aviva Stadium is now sold out for Irish supporters for that game on Tuesday 31 March, whether it is a World Cup play-off final clash or a friendly with the loser of the tie between Denmark and North Macedonia.

The play-off semi-final is live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.
