Evan Ferguson has been left out of the AS Roma squad to face Panathinaikos for the final match of the league phase of the Europa League.

The Italian side will finish inside the top eight if they can produce a victory in Greece after five wins so far in this campaign.

The Republic of Ireland striker was an unused sub as Roma drew 1-1 with second-placed AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico last Sunday.

Ferguson did feature for all 90 minutes of last week's 2-0 win over Stuttgart after overcoming a short-term ankle injury.

Gian Piero Gasperini selected new signing Donyell Malen along with Pablo Dybala for the Milan fixture.

The game itself saw Koni De Winter open the scoring for Milan in the 62nd minute but a 74th-minute penalty from Lorenzo Pellegrini ensured a share of the spoils.

Italian media are reporting that Ferguson trained alone today due to the ankle problem resurfacing and has been left out due to the injury concern.

Gasperini is likely to give more information of Ferguson's injury outlook at his pre-match press conference today.
