Ellen Molloy has left Wexford FC ahead of the 2026 season

Republic of Ireland international Ellen Molloy has left Wexford FC with immediate effect, the club confirmed in a statement on Friday evening.

The disclosure comes just five days after the club had announced that the midfielder would be remaining in the south-east for 2026.

The Kilkenny born player, who won the last of her six Ireland caps in 2022, had rejoined Wexford FC for the 2025 season after a spell in the English second tier with Sheffield United.

Molloy was the club's top scorer in the league in 2025, with 11 goals. The side finished fourth in the table, 14 points adrift of winners Athlone Town.

In the 21-year-old's first spell with Wexford, she won the 2021 FAI Women's Cup, earning the Player of the Match award in the final. Prior to that, she had won the Young Player of the Year award in 2020, her first full season with the club.

Meanwhile Amber Barrett has completed a move to French club Strasbourg RC from Standard Liege in Belgium.

The Donegal striker joined Standard Liege in June 2023 following a frustrating spell with Turbine Potsdam in Germany.

She won the Belgian Cup in April 2025 alongside compatriots Claire O'Riordan and Aoife Colvill.

"I leave with nothing other than a deep sense of gratitude, adoration, appreciation and respect for the club and what it has done for me," Barrett posted on Instagram.

"I arrived in Standard low in confidence and had a huge amount of doubt about my capabilities as a player. That quickly changed here.

"Tough coaching, arm around the shoulder energy and a team that oozed a never say die attitude, I knew I was in the right place.

"We laughed, we cried, we endured defeat, we obsessed over winning and we celebrated an unbelievable cup victory that gave me my first piece of silverware as a professional footballer."

Strasbourg are currently sixth in the 12-team Division 1 Feminine, 17 points behind leaders Lyon.
