Cork City's preparations for the new season have been rocked with the news that manager Ger Nash has stepped down with immediate effect.

The shock announcement comes just weeks ahead of the start of the First Division, where Cork will play, having being relegated from the Premier Division.

Nash took charge of City midway through that campaign, joining from Swedish side GAIS, and while results improved under the new manager, he was unable to avoid relegation.

The 39-year-old also led City to the FAI Cup final where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Shamrock Rovers after the first-half dismissal of Harry Nevin.

The Rebels confirmed the news in a short statement which read: "Cork City FC has been informed by men's first team manager Ger Nash of his decision to step down from the role, with immediate effect.

"The club would like to thank Ger for his efforts throughout the 2025 season.

"Ger Nash has indicated to the club that the decision was made for personal reasons.

"The search for a new manager will begin immediately."

Nash's former assistant David Meyler is among the early favourites for the vacant role, with City not referencing him in their statement.
