Brendan Rodgers has been appointed manager of Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah.

The 52-year-old former Liverpool and Leicester boss resigned as Celtic manager in October to bring to an end his second spell in charge at Parkhead.

Al-Qadsiah, whose squad is largely made up of local players, sit in fifth place in the Saudi league and parted company with previous boss Michel on Sunday.

Chief executive James Bisgrove, who previously held the same role with Rangers, said on alqadsiah.com: "Following a rigorous global recruitment process, we're delighted to welcome Brendan to Al Khobar as our new head coach.

"This is a landmark moment for the club. The calibre of his experience and track record of winning reflects our ambition and long-term vision to establish Al-Qadsiah as one of Asia’s leading clubs."

Assistant coaches John Kennedy and Jack Lyons – who were part of Rodgers’ team at Celtic – are joining him in making the move to the Middle East.

Rodgers won back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles in his most recent spell at Celtic but his relationship with the club turned sour and he was castigated by major shareholder Dermot Desmond following his departure.
