Celtic further punishes ultras group the Green Brigade

Celtic's relations with fans have further deteriorated after the club issued an indefinite ban on the Green Brigade.

The ultras group were already in the midst of a six-match suspension but have seen that extended for what the club described as threatening behaviour and failure to comply with regulations, including the ban.

The punishment was imposed following an incident involving police, stewards and a number of supporters, which led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man.

The Green Brigade had disputed the official version of events.

The club say the suspension will remain in place until they are satisfied the group will "engage in the safe operation of the stadium".

They will also close the front six rows of the safe standing section.

The club claimed that two prominent members of the Green Brigade had approached Celtic head of safety and security operations Mark Hargreaves at the recent abandoned annual general meeting and "directly threatened him and sought to intimidate him".

The North Curve Celtic account on social media platform X highlighted the recently appointed Hargreaves’ past dealings with fans and claimed he had been "given the directive to remove the Green Brigade at any cost".

A club statement added: "Given the conduct of the group and group members, which directly impacts safety within the rail seating section, the club is not satisfied that the Green Brigade is engaging with the club’s safety management of their attendance at Celtic Park.

"The club remains open to engaging with the group when appropriate but cannot accept recent conduct, in particular threats to club staff.

"To be clear, this suspension is entirely unrelated to any protests or banners, and is based on the safety issues and violent, threatening and intimidating behaviour outlined above."

The Celtic Fans Collective recently expressed its concern over what it described as the club’s "significant punitive measures against supporters without adequate dialogue, evidence-sharing or any meaningful consultation".
