Former Republic of Ireland international Enda Stevens has returned to Shamrock Rovers for the 2026 season, the club confirmed in a statement this evening.
The 35-year-old defender, who earned 26 international caps between 2018 and 2023, rejoins the Tallaght club following his release from Stoke City at the end of last season.
The Dubliner was pictured in the crowd at last night's Conference League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk and in a statement on the Shamrock Rovers website, Stephen Bradley said his former team-mate would bring an added 'know-how' to the side.
"Enda has been training with us for the last few weeks, he's someone who’s had a brilliant career at a really high level," said Bradley.
"He will bring that know-how and quality to the group which is really important.
"Any time he’s been home from England, he has come in and been around the group, done bits of training with us and used the training ground.
"So we’ve always had that sort of relationship and when I knew Enda and his family wanted to move home, it was a natural progression to try and get him to Rovers."
The left-back initially made his name at Shamrock Rovers as part of Michael O'Neill's back-to-back title winning sides of 2010 and 2011.
Stevens signed for the club from St Patrick's Athletic at the end of 2009 and was part of the Hoops side that regained the league title for the first time in 16 years. The following year, he played an influential part in the club's historic run to the Europa League group phase, picking up the PFAI Young Player of the Year in 2011.
He subsequently departed for Aston Villa, though failed to break into the team for three years, being shipped out on various loan spells.
Stevens moved to Portsmouth in 2015 before enjoying his best spell at Sheffield United, making almost 200 appearances for the Blades, as a near ever-present in the Premier League during the 2019-20 and the 2020-21 seasons.
In this period, he was a key part of the Ireland side, under Martin O'Neill, Mick McCarthy and Stephen Kenny, earning his first cap in a 2-1 friendly win over USA in the summer of 2018.
His last appearance for Ireland was in the 2-0 away defeat to France in the Parc des Princes in September 2023.
