Paul Pogba marked his return to football after a two-year absence as he made his debut as a late substitute in Monaco's 4-1 Ligue 1 defeat at Rennes.

The career of the 32-year-old former Manchester United midfielder has stalled due to a combination of injuries, a doping suspension and an extortion case involving his brother, in which he was the victim.

Pogba could do nothing to prevent his side's third straight loss as goals from Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, Mahdi Camara, Breel Embolo and Ludovic Blas (penalty) eased Rennes home.

Paris St Germain clambered back to the top of the table as goals from Lee Kang-in, Joao Neves and Bradley Barcola earned them a 3-0 win over Le Havre while Ismaelo Ganiou scored the only goal as Lens maintained their surprise challenge with a 1-0 win over Strasbourg, with both sides finishing with 10 men.

Barcelona celebrated their long-awaited return to the Nou Camp with a 4-0 thrashing of Athletic Bilbao to move back to the top of LaLiga.

Two years after the stadium's closure for redevelopment, a double for Ferran Torres and further goals from Robert Lewandowski and Fermin Lopez ensured the Catalan giants of a night to remember.

Real Sociedad won 3-1 at Osasuna while there were also victories for Celta Vigo and Villarreal over Alaves and Mallorca respectively.

Bayern Munich had to recover from two goals down before thrashing Freiburg 6-2 and maintaining their eight-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

The hosts were left stunned when Yuito Suzuki and Johan Manzambi put the visitors two goals up inside the first 17 minutes but they rallied to level at half-time with goals from Lennart Karl and Michael Olise.

Second-half strikes from Dayot Upamecano, Harry Kane - his 14th of the season - Nicolas Jackson and Olise again ultimately sealed a convincing win.

Bayer Leverkusen stay second after a 3-1 win at Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt got the better of a seven-goal thriller at Koln, and there were also wins for Borussia Monchengladbach and Augsburg.

Deniz Undav scored a hat-trick, including a last-gasp equaliser, in Stuttgart's 3-3 draw at Borussia Dortmund, who thought they had won it through substitute Karim Adeyemi in the 89th minute.

Two first-half goals from David Neres helped Napoli regain top spot in Serie A with a 3-1 win over Atalanta while there was more frustration for Juventus who limped to a 1-1 draw at bottom club Fiorentina.

Aaron Martin scored a late equaliser as Genoa salvaged a 3-3 draw at Cagliari while Bologna won 3-0 at Udinese.
