Republic of Ireland Under-17s boss Colin O'Brien said his players had "represented the flag with distinction" after their World Cup adventure came to an end in Qatar.
The Young Boys in Green fell to a 3-1 loss against Switzerland in their last-16 clash on Tuesday afternoon.
It was a disappointing to end to a terrific tournament for Ireland, with O'Brien declaring his pride in how they've conducted themselves on and off the pitch.
"It's been an incredible season," said O'Brien. "Right now we're gutted, there's no two ways about it. We totally believed that we could keep this going and that's the type of mentality that is in every individual within the group, within the players and the staff.
"We did everything we could tonight. You know, the Swiss probably started the second half that little bit better. We had a warning, a very early warning when they hit the post. Okay, they've had two deflections, but again the boys showed great character to get a goal back and they did everything they could.
"But look, it just wasn't to be our night and unfortunately we're knocked out."
O'Brien also took the opportunity to praise his squad on a deeper level.
"There's just great humility, brilliant willpower. And you can do a lot in life with that."
"I think when everything settles, what they've done for the country is incredible," he went on.
"I think it's been really positive. We've 16 players that have come through our own system. If we want to continue to try and get to these competitions, there's still a lot of work to be done, believe me, but the messages they've sent out have been positive.
"To me, it's bigger than football. Society... they've just represented the flag with distinction basically. Young people that would have been watching the game back home, especially boys and girls, very young, you know, they've inspired the nation, they're role models now.
"A lot of those younger people see images of Ireland that, you know, it's not the Ireland I know on TV sometimes. This is the Ireland I know. And I'm just delighted they represented the flag with distinction."
Many will continue to track the fortunes of this talented crop, hoping some of them can make it all the way to the senior side one day. Reflecting on their development, individually and collectively, O'Brien said: "Throughout the season, every event... there's just been growth in them. Everything you look for them to do, both on off the pitch, honestly, you couldn't ask for any more from them.
"They're talented. That's what opens up the door for you, but talent will only bring you so far. They have great temperaments, but you know, to their families, there's just great humility, brilliant willpower. And you can do a lot in life with that.
"Whatever happens after here with the group and the staff, my door will always be open to them."
