Girls in Green to start World Cup qualifiers at home to France

The Republic of Ireland will kick off their Women's World Cup qualification campaign with a blockbuster home clash against France on Tuesday 3 March.

Carla Ward's Girls in Green earned promotion to the top tier of the Nations League last month when they got past Belgium in a two-legged promotion/relegation play-off.

League A Nations League games double up as qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, and Ireland will be up against it in Group A2, which also includes the Netherlands and Poland.

The group winners earn a ticket to the tournament, with second, third and fourth guaranteed a place in the play-offs.

Ireland will hope to finish at least third (which would offer a kinder play-off route than fourth) but face a tough start. After hosting world No 6 side France at a venue yet to be confirmed, they travel to take on the Dutch on Saturday, 7 March.

They then have a double-header against the Poles, starting with an away game on Tuesday 14 April before a clash on Irish soil the following Saturday.

The campaign wraps up when the Dutch come to the these shores on Friday, 5 June before a trip to France four days later.

The FAI have said negotiations are still taking place on match venues and kick-off times, but it seems likely at least one of the games will take place at Aviva Stadium, with a return to Páirc Uí Chaoimh also highly possible.
