The Republic of Ireland Under-17s will face Canada in the last 32 at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Friday.

The governing body subsequently confirmed that the kick-off time on pitch four at the Aspire Zone in Doha for the 14 November encounter will be 3.15pm Irish time.

The match will be broadcast live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player ahead of live coverage of the Irish under-21s' European qualifier against England in Birmingham.

Colin O'Brien's side had already booked their place in the knockout stages after back-to-back wins over Panama and Uzbekistan in Group J last week.

They sealed top spot in their group on Tuesday after a 0-0 draw against Paraguay but had to wait until all of the remaining fixtures from other groups were completed to find out who their knockout stage opponents would be.

With Austria beating New Zealand 4-1, the Boys in Green finished up as ninth-ranked group winners from the opening stage of the tournament which meant they would face the 12th ranked runners-up.

With Mali beating Saudi Arabia 2-0 later on Tuesday, it meant Canada slipped from 11th down to 12th among the group stage runners-up.

The Canadians finished second in a remarkbale Group K where all four teams ended up on four points.

France topped the group with a plus one goal difference and Chile were bottom on minus one, while Canada pipped third-placed Uganda on head-to-heads - courtesy of the North Americans' 2-1 victory over the African side last Wednesday - with both having gone on to finish with a goal difference of zero.

The winner of Ireland's last 32 match will go on to face either Switzerland or Egypt in the last 16.
