Swansea City have parted ways with their Irish head coach Alan Sheehan with the club lying 18th in the Sky Bet Championship.

Athlone-born Sheehan has had two stints in charge at the club, having initially taken over as interim manager in December 2023 following Michael Duff's departure.

He was installed as interim manager for a second time last February with the Welsh club threatened with relegation. He guided them to safety with five consecutive wins, securing 24 points from the remaining 13 games in their rise to 11th place in the table.

This was enough for the club hierarchy to award Sheehan a three-year deal in the summer, however, a poor start to the season has seen them win just four of 18 games in the second tier.

Swansea City owners Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen said in a statement: "Alan has been instrumental in helping improve the club through two periods of time. Alan has a tireless work ethic, an honest approach and a positive attitude. He has put his full effort into the job on behalf of the club."

Sheehan, who played youth football with Belvedere FC, made five appearances for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side.

He made over 400 league appearances as a player, winning the League One title with Luton Town in 2018-19.
