The Republic of Ireland will close out the year with a behind-closed-doors international friendly against Hungary in Marbella on Saturday, 29 November.

After the high of clinching promotion to League A in the UEFA Nations League - following their two-legged play-off victory over Belgium - the Girls in Green will travel to Spain for a training camp with the friendly against Hungary rounding off the November international window.

Carla Ward is keen to make use of any opportunity to improve her team before 2027 World Cup qualifying begins

Head coach Carla Ward said: "It’s important to use every opportunity that we can to work with the players as we continue towards our goal of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and this camp gives us that extra time with the squad.

"The plan was always to have a training camp outside of the country for this international window but adding in an international friendly with Hungary is a bonus as that will provide us with a chance to test ourselves against a good team."

The game will be the tenth meeting between the two teams at women’s senior level and the first since Ireland thrashed Hungary 4-0 in their inaugural UEFA Nations League campaign in 2023.

Hungary have won their last two matches, friendlies against Slovakia and Luxembourg, but experienced a poor run of games in the summer in the Nations League where they have been relegated to League C.

Hungary have yet to qualify for a European Championships or a World Cup, but have several players in top-tier football across Europe.

The match in the Marbella Football Centre won't be open to the general public will mark the 11th fixture of the calendar year for the Girls in Green.
