Ciarán Kilduff has reportedly quit as Dundalk manager less than three weeks after securing the club's return to the Premier Division.

There had been uncertainty regarding his future with ongoing budget constraints at the club.

The Examiner reports that Kilduff informed the club of his decision this morning and has already been linked with the Waterford vacancy, where Matt Lawlor is currently the interim manager.

Dundalk have yet to officially confirm Kilduff's departure.

It is another setback for Dundalk where boardroom unrest dominates the headlines.

In September 2024 a takeover of the club was agreed between owner Brian Ainscough and a group of investors led by local barrister John Temple.

Temple rejected an ultimatum last week to relinquish his 65% majority stake to the minority, US-based shareholders, describing the call as "not a reasonable offer" and the boardroom standoff has impacted Kilduff and his management team.

Former Dundalk player Kilduff stepped down as Athlone Town's women's boss last year after leading them to an FAI Cup win and a first ever league title to succeed Jon Daly in the Oriel Park hotseat in November 2024.

The Lilywhites made an immediate return to the top-flight under his watch, losing just three league games on their way to claiming the First Division title.
