Azaz and Smallbone named as Ireland take on Armenia

Finn Azaz returns as Ireland look to right the wrongs of the Yerevan game

Finn Azaz and Will Smallbone have been named to start Ireland's must-win World Cup qualifier against Armenia at Aviva Stadium, kick-off 7:45pm.

The midfield duo are both forward-thinking players and Heimir Hallgrimsson has named an attack-minded XI as Ireland look to kick-start their campaign.

Josh Cullen is ruled out through suspension, while Chiedozie Ogbene drops to the bench for the return game against the side that scuppered the start of this qualifying process as they beat Ireland 2-1 in Yerevan.

Otherwise, Ireland remain unchanged from the side that played so well in Portugal on Saturday, and the manager appears to be sticking with the five-man defence, albeit with more emphasis on the three at the back.

Nathan Collins will captain the side and play at the back alongside Jake O'Brien and Dara O'Shea, while Seamus Coleman and Ryan Manning appear to be taking up wing-back positions. Either can drop back into a four when required in what looks to be a fluid formation.

Jayson Molumby will sit in front of the defence marshalling midfield, with Smallbone alongside, and Azaz further up the pitch.

Festy Ebosele will remain in a wide right position, while Evan Ferguson leads the line and Caoimhín Kelleher starts in goal.
