Conor Coventry has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with Armenia in Dublin.

Coventry was previously included in the squad for Ireland's heavy defeat against England in Wembley last year. The 25-year-old has played from u-16 right up to u-21 level for the Boys in Green, but he's yet to win a senior cap.

He plays for Charlton at club level, and has been a regular for the south Londoners, who are currently 13th in the Championship.

Coventry replaces Josh Cullen, who will miss the game due to suspension after picking up a second booking of the campaign in last night's heartbreaking defeat to Portugal in Lisbon.

In other squad news, Liam Scales will not return to the squad for the game with the Armenians. The Celtic defender missed yesterday's clash following a family bereavement.

Ireland's slim hopes of a top-two finish in the group depend on them avoiding defeat against the side which beat them in Yerevan last month.
