Shamrock Rovers need just a point to be crowned SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division champions tonight as they face Shelbourne in a re-arranged match at Tallaght Stadium.

The league title will officially move from north Dublin to south as the Hoops prepare to make it five in six seasons against the team that stopped their run last year.

This game could have been much less significant if Derry City's Michael Duffy hadn't scored in stoppage time to prolong the title race.

In the bigger picture it was irrelevant and perhaps Stephen Bradley will be pleased his side can clinch the league whilst in action and against the side that finished ahead of them last season.

While it will be difficult for Shels to let go of the league trophy, there is plenty riding on this game as they seek to play catch-up in the race for a European place.

They can take encouragement in that they will be facing a weakened home side tonight owing to international call-ups and other facets.

Shels also have a postponed game on Monday in Cork, so it's fair to say their league season hinges on the next few days.

If they don't win at least one match, their European hopes for next summer will look bleak.

Roberto Lopes is away on international duty with Cape Verde as they look to book World Cup qualification on Monday.

Lee Grace, Josh Honohan and Danny Grant are ruled out with injury.

Michael Noonan, Alex Noonan and Max Kovalevskis are on Irish underage duty.

Despite being on the verge of the title, Bradley wants his squad to be concentrated ahead of the game: "We're just focused on the game and prepare as normal.

"We know Shels have good players and that it will be a tough game. But we’ll try and do everything possible to win the league tonight, in front of our own fans and that’s our aim.

"Shels have a lot to play for, we know what we're playing for. So it has the makings to be a good game, with a good crowd too."

This match was scheduled around the play-off round of the Conference League, which both progressed to.

The Reds are becoming used to Tallaght as they are playing their home matches in the competition and perhaps tonight is one of their most important.

The Hoops are chasing a double and are keen to secure the title in order to put their energy into the FAI Cup and European matters.

Kick-off is 7.45pm .

Elsewhere Dundalk will be promoted back to the top flight at the first time of asking if they can beat Finn Harps at Oriel Park.

The Lilywhites will also go up if they match Cobh Ramblers result away to Longford Town on the penultimate night of the First Division season.
