Athlone Town midfielder Hannah Waesch has been chosen as the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division Player of the Month for September.

Town successfully retained their league title with last week’s midweek victory away to Cork City and Waesch has been instrumental.

Hailing from Texas, United States, the 23-year-old has been consistently outstanding in her debut season in the league and scored her second goal in the vital win over Shelbourne to cap off a fine month in September.

Waesch said: "I’m very lucky to have a team like this one. This season, and it’s not even over yet, has been so crazy and so special.

"Genuinely, it all comes down to having such a great culture within the team. We spend so much time together and we genuinely like each other, we’re all friends. I think that team chemistry brings out the best in all of us and you can see that out on the field.

"Just look at the other Player of the Month nominees, we had four Athlone girls in there and there could’ve been more. When we saw that post on social media, we were like: 'let’s go you guys’. We genuinely want every player on this team to do well."

The September voting went in favour of Waesch ahead of her team-mates Kelly Brady, Roisin Molloy and Megan Plaschko along with Bohemians defender Roisin McGovern and Peamount United attacker Ellen Dolan.

Waesch is the sixth different Athlone Town player to win this monthly award – the second this season following on from Kelly Brady in April – and the sixth overall to be shortlisted in what has been a superb 2025 campaign to date.
