Nick Woltemade scored for the fourth time in five starts as Newcastle ground out a 2-0 Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest to leave Ange Postecoglou still awaiting his first win.

The Germany international, who had earlier hit the bar, converted an 84th-minute penalty to add to Bruno Guimaraes' opener as Postecoglou's seventh game at the Forest helm ended in defeat despite a battling performance on Tyneside.

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Matz Sels turned in a fine individual display on his return to St James' Park, saving smartly from Joelinton's early snapshot after Kieran Trippier had pulled the ball back for the Brazil international.

The Forest keeper denied Joelinton for a second time after Sven Botman had headed a 15th-minute Trippier corner back across goal, but Nick Pope had to parry a well-struck Morgan Gibbs-White free-kick five minutes later.

Trippier was in the right place at the right time to prevent former team-mate Chris Wood from converting Gibbs-White's 22nd-minute cross after the midfielder had controlled Sels' clearance brilliantly before playing a one-two with Ryan Yates to get in behind the home defence.

Pope comfortably fielded Neco Williams' strike after he had headed Dan Ndoye into space and then raced upfield to receive his return pass, and his side finally took the lead with 58 minutes gone, with more than a hint of controversy.

Dan Burn left Gibbs-White in a heap as he won the ball back inside the Forest half and fed Guimaraes, who made ground before firing beyond Sels with the visitors appealing, ultimately in vain, for a free-kick.

Wood miskicked in front of goal as his side looked for a way back into the game, although replays suggested he may have been offside, and the Magpies' started to look increasingly laboured.

Sels produced a fine save to keep out Sandro Tonali's looping first-time volley and Woltemade hit the underside of the crossbar after Malick Thiaw had headed down the Italy international's corner, but Pope had to save from substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi with 12 minutes remaining.

The Forest keeper denied substitute Harvey Barnes nine minutes from time but he was beaten for the second time when Woltemade struck from the spot after Anderson had felled Guimaraes in the box, lifting the ball high into Sels' top right-hand corner.

Daniel Munoz of Crystal Palace scores against Everton - Premier League, October 2025

Jack Grealish's first goal for Everton snatched a 2-1 victory in added time to end Crystal Palace's 19-game unbeaten run.

The on-loan Manchester City winger knew little about it as Eagles' goalscorer Daniel Munoz's clearance rebounded off him into the net but he happily claimed it, after manager David Moyes had called on him to produce more of a threat in front of goal.

That threat had been absent from the whole team for the majority of the game until Maxence Lacroix needlessly gave away a penalty which allowed Iliman Ndiaye to equalise 14 minutes from time.

And when goalkeeper Dean Henderson could only block Beto's header in the third minute of stoppage time, Grealish was in the right place at the right time to get his body in the way to maximum effect.

It was an afternoon when the visitors' efficient effectiveness deserted them as they squandered the chance to reach the heady heights of second place after a relatively comfortable first half in which they led through Munoz's 37th-minute strike.

Donyell Malen's double continued Aston Villa's revival as they beat Burnley 2-1 to make it four wins in a row.

Netherlands international Malen was the hero, getting off the mark for the season with a goal in each half, to mark boss Emery's 150th game in charge with a fitting three points.

Burnley got back into the game through Lesley Ugochukwu, but lost for a fifth time in seven matches amid a tough run of fixtures, having played Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and now Villa.

The breakthrough game in the 25th minute and it was made by Boubacar Kamara's brilliant pass. Villa worked the ball well in tight space in their own half and, when play opened up, Kamara sent an arcing through ball straight into path of Malen, who outpaced Maxim Esteve and slid the ball into the far corner.

Morgan Rogers then created the goal that gave Villa a cushion in the 63rd minute. He received the ball on the edge of the box and fed Malen, who fizzed an unstoppable drive into the corner.

Dubravka made a fine stop to keep out Matty Cash's deflected effort and that was an important moment as Burnley gave themselves a lifeline in the 78th minute.

Ugochukwu was left unmarked from Quilindschy Hartman's corner and powered a header through Martinez's legs.

Jan Paul van Hecke scored a late header to rescue Brighton a 1-1 draw and deny Wolves a first Premier League victory of the season.

Wolves hit the front shortly after when Marshall Munetsi's bullet header bounced off the bar onto goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and in.

Sam Johnstone denied the Seagulls five times throughout the encounter as it looked like Wolves would win for the first time in 11 Premier League matches.

However, Van Hecke notched four minutes from time to earn Brighton's seventh point this season from a losing position as both sides' wait for a first clean sheet of the campaign went on.
