Waterford have opted to make a second managerial change of the season by parting company with John Coleman with just four matches left in the season.

The Blues looked to have been safe during the summer but have lost five league matches in a row, coupled with a revitalisation by Coleman's former side Sligo Rovers, to drop into the relegation play-off spot.

He was appointed in May following the departure of Keith Long but his time in charge has lasted less than five months.

The ex-Accrington Stanley boss had 18 league matches in charge, with four victories. His last league success came in late July.

Waterford take on Drogheda United on Friday night at the RSC. They will face Galway United on the final day of the season in what could be a crucial match to avoid the play-off.

"Waterford FC can confirm head coach John Coleman and assistant coach Danny Ventre have left the club with immediate effect," a statement from the club read.

"We would like to thank John and Danny for their efforts whilst at the club and wish them well for the future.

"The club will be making no further comment, and will issue a further update in due course."
