SIPTU left frustrated after FAI redundancy meeting

SIPTU representatives have met with management at the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) over planned redundancies at the association.

Last month, the FAI announced plans to introduce a voluntary redundancy programme and potentially move towards compulsory job losses in what it described as the start of "a significant transformation programme to modernise how football is developed and delivered in Ireland".

SIPTU had threatened industrial action over the plan but suspended consideration of the action to allow for today's meeting with management.

SIPTU Services Divisional Organiser Adrian Kane said it was a "frustrating" meeting as they not receive answers to their questions.

"We are looking for a copy of the plan, we are looking for the scale of the voluntary redundancies, we are looking for direct negotiations with management and we have also informed management that we will not accept compulsory redundancies," Kane said.

"Management have looked for time and have said they'll come back to us next week to respond to our demands," he added.

SIPTU said it will then convene a general meeting of its members in the FAI to decide on its next steps.
