Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has called up Josh Honohan for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with Armenia in Yerevan.

The Shamrock Rovers defender comes in for Sammie Szmodics, who has had to leave the squad due to injury.

Honohan is yet to win a senior cap for Ireland but he was in the squad for June's friendly with Senegal in Dublin. He was close to a move away from the Tallaght club in the transfer window, with Rovers reported to have turned down several bids from Lincoln City.

Szmodics came off after 78 minutes in last night's 2-2 draw with Hungary and took to social media this morning to say; "gutted to be leaving camp early fingers crossed it's nothing too serious. Good luck to the boys in Armenia."

The Boys in Green were two down inside 15 minutes last night, but battled to earn a point thanks to Adam Idah's goal in injury time.
