In round 18 of the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division Athlone Town extended their lead at the top of the table with a 2-0 home win over sixth-placed Shamrock Rovers, their 13th victory of the season.

Kelly Brady added another goal to her tally and gave the hosts the lead just ten minutes in. The American-born star chased the Rovers keeper down and popped a deflected ball into the net much to the delight of her team-mates.

Roisin Molloy doubled Athlone's lead before the break and the visitors were unable to get onto the scoreboard despite early pressure in the second half.

For the league toppers, attention will now turn to their Europa League qualifier against Glasgow City FC on Wednesday.

In the most closely contested fixture of the day, second-placed Shelbourne faced Galway United and suffered a dramatic 2-1 loss.

Shels were first to score through Mackenzie Anthony in the 36th minute and led at the break but Galway responded with an Emma Doherty header in the 47th minute to level up the game.

Twenty minutes later, it was Jamie Erikson who put United in front. Galway battled strongly to hold off a strong Shelbourne attack in the closing stages but hung on to prevent a leveller and take an impressive win.

The clash between Wexford and DLR Waves was hotly anticipated but ended in a 0-0 draw at the UCD Bowl.

Two late goals at the Showgrounds saw Sligo Rovers get a share of the points with Treaty United.

Muireann Devaney pulled one back for Rovers in the 89th minute before a second was scored by Paula McGrory, again from a set-piece to ensure a share of the points.

Peamount United had a dominant 5-0 win over Waterford.

Goals in the 13th and 35th minute secured a 2-0 home win for Bohemians over Cork City.
