Holders Drogheda United will take on Shamrock Rovers in the quarter-finals of the Sports Direct FAI Cup.

The draw was made this afternoon with Kevin Doherty's side facing a tough task against the champions-elect Hoops.

Stephen Bradley is eyeing a double and must overcome the side third in the Premier Division table as it stands.

Elsewhere there is another all-Premier Division clash with old rivals Stephen Kenny and John Caulfield to meet again as St Patrick's Athletic host Galway United.

Cork City face the long trip to Donegal to take on Finn Harps.

Sligo Rovers will face Kerry for the first time with the game to be held in Mounthawk Park in the remaining quarter-final

Ties will be played the week ending 14 September and RTÉ Sport will broadcast two of the matches live as well as the semi-finals and final.

In the women's semi-final, Athlone Town will travel to Tallaght Stadium to take on Shamrock Rovers as their busy end of season continues.

Bohemians will host Treaty United in the other semi-final.
