Former St Patrick's Athletic manager Jon Daly has been appointed assistant manager at Galway United with Ollie Horgan departing the set-up for "the forseeable future."

The club announced the news in a statement this afternoon, with manager John Caulfield confirming that "Ollie and myself have been discussing this over the last number of weeks and we are delighted that Jon is joining us.

"I'd like to personally thank Ollie for all his help and assistance," Caulfield added.

Daly, a former striker with Dundee United and Rangers, led St Pat's to the 2023 FAI Cup title. He subsequently had a short stint in charge at a crisis-ridden Dundalk in 2024, at the end of which the club were relegated to the First Division.

Daly replaces the renowned coach Horgan, who famously managed Finn Harps between 2013 and 2022, guiding the cash-strapped Donegal club to two promotions and keeping them in the top tier against the odds for four years from 2019 to 2022.

The Salthill-born Horgan joined Caulfield's management team in Galway ahead of the 2023 season, in which the westerners were runaway winners of the First Division.

They enjoyed a highly creditable first season back in the top flight, even having an outside shot of the title in the closing weeks before finishing fifth.

Galway United currently sit eighth in the Premier Division, three points clear of Sligo Rovers in the relegation play-off spot.
