Manchester United are seeking to strike a deal with RB Leipzig after Benjamin Sesko indicated to the Old Trafford club he favours a move to them over Newcastle, it's understood.
The 22-year-old striker has been the subject of a tug of a war as the Premier League sides attempt to bolster their attacks ahead of the new season.
Newcastle made the first move and reacted to seeing an initial bid rebuffed by making an improved approach worth a reported €82.5m plus €2.5m in add-ons.
Ruben Amorim's Red Devils were waiting in the wings and followed with a rival proposal worth €75m, plus a potential €10m in add-ons, giving the player a decision to make.
Manchester United believe Sesko's preference is to join them, and are now looking to reach an agreement on terms with Leipzig.
The Slovenia international, who scored 21 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions last term, has long been on the Red Devils' radar, stretching back to when he moved from Domzale to RB Salzburg in 2019.
The Old Trafford outfit made him their priority over Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins, having also been interested in Liam Delap and Hugo Ekitike before their summer switches.
Newcastle held an interest in the latter pair and missing out on Sesko would be another blow in a summer of gut punches as they struggle to improve their squad.
The club's stand-off with star striker Alexander Isak continued on Wednesday, with the Swede training alone amid strong interest from Liverpool.
Everton have completed the signing of midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £28m (€32m).
The 26-year-old, who joined Chelsea in a £30m (€34.3m) deal from Leicester just over a year ago, has agreed a five-year contract with Everton.
Dewsbury-Hall becomes the fifth summer signing for the Toffees, who will play home games at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium this season, having turned Charly Alcaraz's loan into a permanent deal and signed Thierno Barry, Mark Travers and Adam Aznou.
"I'm so, so excited to get started," Dewsbury-Hall said. "Just sitting here in the stadium, it's unbelievable.
"I'm honestly very excited, my family's excited. There's a real buzz about this. It feels right for me. So just that alone gives me the motivation and the extra determination to show everybody, to prove a point and have a really successful time here."
Darwin Nunez's frustrating spell at Liverpool looks to be coming to an end with the striker set for a move to Al Hilal.
The Saudi Pro League club have had a long-held interest in the Uruguay international, who was a target for Al Nassr in January with a £60m (€69m) bid rejected as the Reds did not want to sell in the middle of a Premier League-winning season.
It is understood that Nunez's move is likely to bring in an initial £46million (€53m), with more in add-ons once the final details have been ironed out.
Liverpool had allowed the 26-year-old's representatives to speak to Al Hilal - AC Milan had made an enquiry but were not able to compete with what the Saudis were offering - in an attempt to reach an agreement before talks were opened between the clubs.
There is still some negotiating to do between Al Hilal and Liverpool but Nunez's three-year stay at Anfield, in which he scored 40 goals in 143 appearances but became increasingly inconsistent, appears over.
His departure will take income from sales this summer to almost £200m (€229m), with more likely to follow with £40m (€46m)-plus-rated midfielder Harvey Elliott talking to RB Leipzig over a move.
It also opens up a space on the forward line, which has already been strengthened with the arrival of Hugo Ekitike as part of a near-£300m (€344) spend, and the number nine shirt.
Liverpool retain an interest in Newcastle's Alexander Isak after having a £110m (€126m) bid rejected last week.
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min (above) is expected to complete his transfer to Los Angeles FC on Wednesday.
Son revealed on Saturday, before playing in Sunday's pre-season 1-1 draw with Newcastle in his home country of South Korea, that he would leave Spurs after a decade of service for the Premier League club.
After an emotional farewell, Son arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday and watched LAFC clinch a 2-1 win over Tigres at BMO Stadium.
A press conference has since been arranged by the Major League Soccer club for Wednesday, when Son's arrival is set to be officially announced.
A deal for a fee in excess of £20m (€23m) has been reached with Tottenham.
Son's transfer will be an MLS record, surpassing the $21.5m (€16.1m) Atlanta spent on signing forward Emmanuel Latte Lath from Middlesbrough in February.
Spurs stalwart Son will exit north London after scoring 173 goals in 454 appearances.
Teenage Chelsea striker Marc Guiu (above) is on Wearside to undergo a medical as Sunderland close in on a loan deal.
The clubs agreed terms for the 19-year-old last week and the Black Cats are now working to add the Spanish player to a pool of frontmen already bolstered by the additions of Chemsdine Talbi and Simon Adingra.
Guiu, who left Barcelona for Stamford Bridge last summer, made 16 senior appearances for the Blues during the 2024-25 campaign.
Nine of them came in the UEFA Conference League, in which he scored six goals, including a hat-trick against Shamrock Rovers.
He was also used as a substitute twice in Chelsea's victorious Club World Cup campaign.
Should the move go through, Guiu will join new recruits Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, Talbi, Adingra, Granit Xhaka and Robin Roefs at the Stadium of Light, with head coach Regis Le Bris, who signed a new long-term contract on Monday, busily re-shaping his squad following promotion to the Premier League.
